The ASEAN Women’s Circle of Ha Noi experiences making traditional Vietnamese dishes

TGVN. On October 22th, the ASEAN Women’s Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) experiences making some of Vietnamese traditional dishes, including banh goi (pillow cake/crispy dumplings) and mooncake.

This is an activity of AWCH to experience the culture of ASEAN countries. Present at the event was Mrs. Tran Thi Bich Van, Chairwomen of AWCH, spouse of Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung; Mrs. Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, spouse of Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and other members of AWCH.

The ingredients are: vermicelli, carrot, kohlrabi, meat, wood-ear, sausages and boiled quail eggs.

In order to make banh goi, the members will sweep a thin layer of water around the edge of the flour, fill the ingredients in the center, then slowly fold the edges and make a crease that resembles a pillow.

According to Anh Tuyet, to cook a golden, crunchy and puffy banh goi, we need to carefully wrap the edges, deep fry it in a hot oil pan. The dumpling will need to be fried twice.

The finished dumplings will be served with pickles, dipping sauce and herbs.

After finishing with the dumplings, it's time to learn how to make mooncakes.

In order to have delicious and beautiful mooncakes, Anh Tuyet said that the ingredients and cooking methods are decisive for the finished product.

The dough must be cooked glutinous flour and the ingredients inside need to be high-quality nuts, without any molds or damages.

Mixing the dough is quite important which needs to be mixed in one direction to avoid breaking the texture of dough. After mixing, the dough need to rest for about 5 minutes.

The use of traditional wooden molds will result in luxurious and delicate mooncakes.

All AWCH members showed great interest and desire to continue to be involved in making Vietnamese traditional dishes, as well as other ASEAN countries' dishes.
